Project Overview
Following the installation of a new pond, the client wanted to create a peaceful area within the garden where they could sit, relax, and enjoy the surroundings.
PSBK recommended a bespoke circular decking design positioned to frame the pond as a tranquil centrepiece. The intention was to create a calm, inviting space where they could read, unwind and spend quiet time outdoors.
The curved layout complements the natural flow of the water feature, while the “floating” effect enhances the sense of lightness and serenity. The result is a thoughtfully designed retreat that blends seamlessly with the landscape, encouraging a slower pace and a stronger connection to the garden.
Design & Materials
For this project, decking from Millboard’s Enhanced Grain collection was selected in the shade Smoked Oak, chosen for its rich, natural tone that complements the surrounding water and planting.
To support the bespoke circular design, the Millboard DuoSpan® subframe system was used. DuoSpan® combines the strength of aluminium with the flexibility of recycled plastic, creating a lightweight yet highly durable structure. This allows for complex, precise designs that would be difficult to achieve with traditional timber.
In this case, the precise circular layout and floating effect would have been unachievable with timber and would not have delivered the same long-term durability or stability.

The circular form required precise craftsmanship, with careful attention given to board shaping, alignment, and structural detailing to achieve a flawless curved finish.
